Heavy haul is specialized work with specialized, expensive equipment. A heavy-spec tractor and a multi-axle lowboy can cost more than a small fleet of standard trucks, and the jobs that pay for them come from contractors, equipment dealers and industrial customers. Heavy haul equipment financing spreads that cost over the life of the work so you can take on bigger loads without draining cash.

Terms, amounts and down payment depend on credit, time in business, the equipment and the industry, all subject to approval. $0 down is for established businesses (5+ years, PayNet and Dun & Bradstreet business credit, strong comparable credit, 700+ personal credit); first and last payments and fees such as tax, title and registration may still apply.

Why heavy haulers lease instead of paying cash

  • Conserve cash. Keep your money for payroll, fuel, insurance and the next job instead of tying it up in iron.
  • Cash flow management. A low capital outlay and fixed payment let the equipment pay for itself out of the work it does.
  • Low, manageable payments. Terms up to 5 years, most with a $1 buyout, keep payments in line with what the equipment earns.
  • Inflation buster. Lock today’s price and a fixed payment while equipment and parts prices keep climbing.
  • Section 179. Equipment on a $1 buyout lease or loan can qualify to deduct up to 100% of the price in the year it goes into service. Ask your tax advisor.
  • One payment for the whole rig. Tractor, trailer and jeeps or boosters can be combined into a single financing package.

What lenders look at

Lenders look at time in business, credit, CDL and heavy-haul experience, insurance, and the customers or contracts you haul for. Owner-operators with steady contract work and dealer or contractor customers are the strongest applicants.

FAQ

Can I finance a lowboy trailer by itself?

Yes. Trailers can be financed alone, or packaged with the tractor and any jeeps or boosters.

Do you finance used heavy-haul tractors?

Yes, from dealers, auctions or private sellers, with terms up to 60 months depending on age and mileage.

Can a new heavy-haul company get financed?

New companies are reviewed case by case with 650+ credit. CDL and heavy-haul driving experience, a down payment and signed customer work make approval much more likely.

Does the equipment need to be US-spec?

Yes. Lenders finance US-spec tractors and DOT-compliant trailers registered and operated in the US.
