Adrian Dalsey is CEO of Liberty Capital Group, Inc., a San Diego equipment finance and business lending company that has been funding businesses since 2004. Under his leadership the firm has funded more than $250 million for contractors, fleets, manufacturers, medical practices, restaurants and other growing businesses across the country.
Liberty Capital Group works as both a direct lender and a broker. That matters to the borrower: when a deal fits LCG’s own program, it gets funded in-house; when it fits another lender better, Adrian’s team places it with a funding source that writes that credit profile, so an A-credit business isn’t stuck with a B-credit offer and a startup isn’t turned away by a lender that only funds established companies.
Adrian’s view is that the payment has to fit the business, not the other way around. That means matching the term to the equipment’s working life, telling an owner up front when a deal is a stretch, and pointing out when paying cash or using a line of credit is the better call. It also means saying the uncomfortable things out loud: a 72-month term on a used machine is usually a red flag, the “lowest rate” quote is not always the cheapest money, and the application that gets approved fastest is the one that’s complete on day one.
Adrian writes on equipment leasing, Section 179 timing and working capital for owners in construction, trucking and manufacturing. Published columns will be listed here as they go live.
