MCA Funding for Bad Credit
5 ways to qualify, and how to keep it from hurting cash flow
When the bank says no, a merchant cash advance (MCA) can turn future sales into cash in a day or two. Funders look at your deposits more than your credit score. Think of it as using other people’s credit: the funder’s capital and risk appetite stand in for the credit you don’t have yet. It is fast and it is expensive, so use it on purpose.

5 ways to secure MCA funding with bad credit
How an MCA works
| Element | What it means |
|---|---|
| Advance amount | Cash funded to you, e.g. $100,000 |
| Factor rate | Multiplier on the advance, e.g. 1.30 means $130,000 is remitted in total |
| Remittance | A fixed daily or weekly debit, or a percentage of card or ACH sales |
| Term | Not fixed like a loan; it runs until the agreed amount is collected |
| Best use | Short-term needs with a quick payback |
An MCA is a purchase of future receivables, not a loan. Costs are front-loaded and remittances are frequent, so the effective cost can be high. Read the agreement carefully.
Best-fit uses vs misuses
Short-term, high-ROI
- Inventory that turns quickly or fills confirmed orders
- Emergency repairs that keep revenue coming
- Vendor discounts worth more than the cost of capital
- Seasonal prep with a predictable sales ramp
Creates a cash-flow mismatch
- Buying trucks, machinery or other long-lived assets
- Covering ongoing operating losses
- Stacking advances to fix the last one
- Relying on renewals to stay open
Don’t use an MCA for equipment
Daily and weekly remittances are the wrong tool for an asset you will use for years. Equipment financing or leasing matches the payment to the life of the asset with a fixed monthly payment, and lessors often approve credit an MCA funder would also approve. Leasing is an inflation buster and a cash flow management tool: a low capital outlay, low, manageable payments, terms up to 5 years with most at a $1 buyout, possible Section 179 treatment (ask your CPA), and you conserve cash.

MCA and bad credit questions
Can I get an MCA with a 500 credit score?
Often, yes. MCA funders focus on deposits, balances and NSFs. Low credit usually means a smaller advance and a higher factor rate.
How much can I get?
Typically a portion of one to two months of revenue, depending on deposits, existing advances and industry.
Is a merchant cash advance a loan?
No. It is a purchase of future receivables. That is why credit matters less and why pricing is higher than a loan.
How fast is MCA funding?
Often 1–2 business days after approval with complete bank statements.
What if I already have an MCA?
We can help you plan an exit to a term loan, line of credit or equipment financing as your numbers improve. Avoid adding another position.
Will applying hurt my credit?
Pre-qualification starts with a soft inquiry.
